Wheels for the World - Lima 2009

My parents just got home safely from their mission trip to Lima, Peru! What an answer to prayers that they (and most of their team) are home safe and sound! I wanted to let everyone know about the wonderful ministry they are a part of! They work with Joni Eareckson Tada's outreach ministry called Wheels for a the World! They rehabilitate old and unused wheelchairs and take them to countries where most people do not have access or cannot afford a wheelchair! Many of the people that they help are children who have rarely even left their homes because they need to be carried! Some of the people come in with make shift wheel chairs made from lawn chairs or whatever they can find! In some cases they are able to give mobility and even the ability to work to the people they minister to. The most wonderful thing that they bring to these disabled people and their families is the hope of Christ! This year in Lima over 500 people came to know the Lord! What an amazing thing that is! Todd and I hope to one day travel to Lima or one of the many other places with Wheels for the World! It is a wonderful ministry! You can read more about their team and this years adventures on their blog! There are many ways to get involved if you are interested 1) You can pray for the new believers in Lima that they can have lots of encouragement and be infectious to the people around them! 2) you can pray about going on a trip in the future! You can contact Paul Faculjack Paul.Faculjak@JoniAndFriendsABQ.org and he can tell you much more than I can about what it takes to be on a team! and 3) You can donate used wheelchairs, walkers and crutches to be rehabed! This is a ministry our family is really passionate about! Read all about Joni and this ministry here!
Thanks for your prayers for the safety of my folks!

I'm Ever So Lonely Tonight...

Today I am missing my mum, quite a lot. Todd is at a training and Cyrus is asleep and I am ever so terribly lonely tonight. I'm wishing that I could give my mum a hug and tell her all the stupid things about my day. In just 2 days she will be home... what a terribly lonely night!

Curse that little pointy finger!

Motherhood in general is different than I expected. Not in a bad way but I guess you could say I didn't expect it to be quite so hard! Those of you that are parents are laughing and those that aren't JUST YOU WAIT! Anyway lately the little guy has just really developed a will of steel! I swear the kid is out to get me! We have baby-proofed our house extremely well but there are just somethings that we can't figure out how to Cyrus-proof and THOSE ARE THE THINGS HE IS DRAWN TO! Case in point the DVD player. The Cy guy has been flexing his dexterity lately by very carefully poking thinks with his pointer finger. His favorite thing to poke? You guessed it the buttons on the DVD player. And he is sneaky! I'll leave him playing with his toys in the other room to go start dinner and the little fellow will sneak past me and before I know it I can hear the disc tray on the DVD player sliding open, Cyrus will then carefully remove the current DVD and bring it to me or (if it is Ratatouille or Cars) push the tray back in and wait for the movie to start. This is particularly obnoxious if we are say in the middle of a movie or watching something on television (yes I am the bad mom that lets my kiddo watch TV). The situation becomes particularly hilarious when Daddy is home and watching TV, because he thinks Cyrus is maliciously sabotaging his TV time! He has a ton of toys but he wants to play with the DVD player. He has lots of snacks but he wants to eat the dog food and printer paper. I'm understand that this is the setting boundaries stage of life but golly it's hard! The kid is a real blast though, and I love staying home with him! I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Look at the sly look on his face, he is plotting something I just know it! Watch out DVDs Cyrus is coming for you!
