Weaning and Skating!

It is official! We have begun weaning! I have been very reluctant to start weaning because I know it's super healthy. But, quite frankly, I have loved our nursing time! I love getting Cyrus all to myself every couple of hours! I love snuggling him close! The last couple months I have sought advice from many former lactating moms about how to know when it is time to wean and I kept hearing "you will just know when it is time". And on Saturday morning I realized that it was time. In hindsight I think I have really just been putting it off because I really didn't want to do it! However on Saturday we dropped his noon feeding with extreme ease! He didn't even seem to notice! Then yesterday we dropped his 4 pm feeding with relative ease. I think I will drop the morning feeding in a week or so. I think I already miss that time with my Cy Guy! His first little steps to independence! Watching your kids grow up is so hard! I hope it just gets easier that's all I can say!
Cyrus has also started skateboarding As his dad keeps saying they are never too young to start! Cy got a Cy-sized skateboard for his birthday and has been practicing standing on it. He has gotten really good at keeping his balance (mostly from walking on the bed, yeah I know I'm a bad mom but I always watch him very closely!)! The other day dad wanted to go to the skate park to try his new board. It seems that Cyrus ALSO wanted to try out Dad's new board. After being pushed around on his own little board for a while he moved on to bigger things! Can you believe that the kiddo can stand on the board while it is moving? He loves it! Maybe he will be the next Tony Hawk (forgive me husband for compairing your son to your arch nemisis)! Then he can be one of the most followed people on Twitter, and have his own video game, and support us in our old age... ah but I digress! I hope this is a quality update and that the Christmas season finds you all well!

Love,
Sarah (and the boys and pup!)

My Little Fireman

Cyrus has just recently become a huge fan of Fireman stuff! Yesterday he found the Fireman hat we bought him for Easter and started wearing it! This morning as I was checking my e-mail he came over wearing his hat with his Fireman jammies! I just had to share it!

Wheels for the World - Lima 2009

My parents just got home safely from their mission trip to Lima, Peru! What an answer to prayers that they (and most of their team) are home safe and sound! I wanted to let everyone know about the wonderful ministry they are a part of! They work with Joni Eareckson Tada's outreach ministry called Wheels for a the World! They rehabilitate old and unused wheelchairs and take them to countries where most people do not have access or cannot afford a wheelchair! Many of the people that they help are children who have rarely even left their homes because they need to be carried! Some of the people come in with make shift wheel chairs made from lawn chairs or whatever they can find! In some cases they are able to give mobility and even the ability to work to the people they minister to. The most wonderful thing that they bring to these disabled people and their families is the hope of Christ! This year in Lima over 500 people came to know the Lord! What an amazing thing that is! Todd and I hope to one day travel to Lima or one of the many other places with Wheels for the World! It is a wonderful ministry! You can read more about their team and this years adventures on their blog! There are many ways to get involved if you are interested 1) You can pray for the new believers in Lima that they can have lots of encouragement and be infectious to the people around them! 2) you can pray about going on a trip in the future! You can contact Paul Faculjack Paul.Faculjak@JoniAndFriendsABQ.org and he can tell you much more than I can about what it takes to be on a team! and 3) You can donate used wheelchairs, walkers and crutches to be rehabed! This is a ministry our family is really passionate about! Read all about Joni and this ministry here!
Thanks for your prayers for the safety of my folks!

I'm Ever So Lonely Tonight...

Today I am missing my mum, quite a lot. Todd is at a training and Cyrus is asleep and I am ever so terribly lonely tonight. I'm wishing that I could give my mum a hug and tell her all the stupid things about my day. In just 2 days she will be home... what a terribly lonely night!

Curse that little pointy finger!

Motherhood in general is different than I expected. Not in a bad way but I guess you could say I didn't expect it to be quite so hard! Those of you that are parents are laughing and those that aren't JUST YOU WAIT! Anyway lately the little guy has just really developed a will of steel! I swear the kid is out to get me! We have baby-proofed our house extremely well but there are just somethings that we can't figure out how to Cyrus-proof and THOSE ARE THE THINGS HE IS DRAWN TO! Case in point the DVD player. The Cy guy has been flexing his dexterity lately by very carefully poking thinks with his pointer finger. His favorite thing to poke? You guessed it the buttons on the DVD player. And he is sneaky! I'll leave him playing with his toys in the other room to go start dinner and the little fellow will sneak past me and before I know it I can hear the disc tray on the DVD player sliding open, Cyrus will then carefully remove the current DVD and bring it to me or (if it is Ratatouille or Cars) push the tray back in and wait for the movie to start. This is particularly obnoxious if we are say in the middle of a movie or watching something on television (yes I am the bad mom that lets my kiddo watch TV). The situation becomes particularly hilarious when Daddy is home and watching TV, because he thinks Cyrus is maliciously sabotaging his TV time! He has a ton of toys but he wants to play with the DVD player. He has lots of snacks but he wants to eat the dog food and printer paper. I'm understand that this is the setting boundaries stage of life but golly it's hard! The kid is a real blast though, and I love staying home with him! I wouldn't trade it for the world!
Look at the sly look on his face, he is plotting something I just know it! Watch out DVDs Cyrus is coming for you!

The Woes of Being Sick!

It is well known that I am not good at being sick, and this last week has been a great example! The day after Cyrus' 1st Birthday the poor little guy came down with a cold. For those who might immediately panic because of this ridiculous Swine (H1N1) Flu epidemic, never fear, it was just a cold. The poor little guy was a much better sport than his mama that is for sure. Although we did a lot of laying around for a couple of days. At one point as I was holding his Binky between my teeth it dawned on me that I was not being as careful as I should and that I was most likely going to get the little fellow's cold... sigh and did I ever. My main problem is that I am a diehard nose breather, unlike Todd, and I feel like I am suffocating when my nose is stuffed up. The worst part was when Cyrus started feeling better and I still felt HORRIBLE, and since I am still breastfeeding I refuse to take anything that might hurt Cy! So yesterday Cyrus and I drove over to Whole Foods and bought a Neti Pot. I have heard wonderful things about them, and so far it has been a really big help! Kind of a weird idea, you literally pour warm salty water in one nostril and it comes out the other flushing out your nose in the process. I am happy to report that as of today I can now hear out of one ear and breathe out of one nostril! Yay! Cyrus is 100% back to normal and I would say I am about halfway there and so far Todd has not shown any signs of being sick at all! Probably because he doesn't hold a sick baby's binky in his mouth!
